A Gift from the City

September 6th - October 6th

We're in bus shelters! The City of Vancouver's Office of Cultural Affairs has donated ten bus shelters to the Vancouver Internation Sculptural Biennale. Check out Vancouver Biennale posters at the following locations:

Private Vision to Public Space

July 2006 - April 2007

Recently installed at the Listel Hotel, 1300 Robson Street, is an exhibit by one of the Official Biennale photographers, Dan Fairchild.  The exhibition shows the evolution of the sculpture "217.5 Arc X 13" by French sculptor Bernar Venet, and will be on display through the end of the Biennale, April 2007.  The exhibition is located between the hotel lobby and O'Doul's restaurant.



Video and New Media Film Fest

August 2006 to February 2007

A pilot project involving Community Colleges (Langara, Kwantlen, Douglas, Capilano, and Fraser Valley College) as well as Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver School Board, UBC, SFU and Vancouver Film School. Via Specific Programmes within each of these institutions classes will prepare 3 to 5 minute presentations. All will be screened and presented via a public venue in March/April 07. A jury of peers and professionals will select the best in various categories. Money awards will be presented and the winning video/films/new media entrants will be used to promote future Biennales.

Awards Gala Ceremony & Live Internet Auction

February 2006

Community Partners: Pan Pacific Hotel, Christies International. A Black-Tie Fund-Raiser Celebrity Gala will celebrate “Academy Award” style the achievements of the Biennale and focus the art world’s attention on Vancouver via Live Internet Auction. Awards for community based projects including local citizens, community groups, and schools with a focus on “Best Short Film” and best promotional photographs of the Biennale installations.

Biennale Publishing Co. Commemorative Editions

September - October 2006

In partnership with the New Leaf Editions and participating artists, limited editions and portfolios of original works on paper will be published for sale and VIP gifting. In partnership with a major printer and distributor, a commemorative book celebrating the Biennale and Vancouver's Open Spaces, will be produced for sale to the tourist market and corporate gifting.

In the Park Community Festivals

August - September 2006

Devonian Park August 2006 - Picnic on the grass, open air music and dance events by regional community groups throughout August and early September.

Multimedia Launch

June 28, 2006

Community Partners: ReThink Communications, Burnkit, 24 Magazine, Can West Global. A staggered multi-media public awareness campaign will be out today throughout Vancouver-Lower Mainland, and lower B.C., Canada and Worldwide.

Photo & Video Contest

May to December, 2006

Community Partners: ReThink Communications, Burnkit, Give Meaning Foundation, 24 Magazine, Canwest. Awards announced monthly via FLICKR.com and 24 Magazine. Best from variety of categories will be announced at the Gala in February 2007.

Tour de Biennale Passport Family Bike & Walking Tour

May 2005 to December 2006

Community Partners: Vancouver Park Board, Tourism, Listel Hotel, Pan Pacific Hotel, Spokes Bicycle Rentals, Reckless Rider Bicycle Rentals. 10,000 pocket size passport/maps identifying the locations of the 22 sculptures installed throughout 8 neighborhoods surrounding the waterfront parks and urban centre to be distributed via sponsors and major downtown hotels, Tourism BC and Vancouver Park Board.

Distinguished Lecture & Artists Series

September 2006 to April 2007

Community Partners: Simon Fraser University, Emily Carr Institute, City of Vancouver. A series of 7 public lectures/forums coordinated via Simon Fraser University with featured presenters drawn from the participating artists as well as renowned members in the arts, architecture, and urban planning communities.

Cell Phone Tour

May 01, 2006

Community Partners: Ubiquity Interactive/Mobile Muse. Using metrocode, the newest in cellular technologies, viewers can learn about each sculpture via interactive dialogues between celebrities, as well as photographers, promoting communication via text and picture messaging and being able to gain access to local cultural events. The local phone will function as a principle vehicle in the legacy voting for the "People Choice" sculpture to be permanently installed in the city and for the reaching a younger demographic nation wide.

Legacy Project Announcement

Feb 07, 2006

2 major sculptures will be purchased (value $300,000 to $1,200,000 CAD) at the end of the event to remain in the city or region (subject to funds and benefactors) based on the “People’s Choice” vote and the “Curators Choice” determination. Vote for your favorite today.

Multi-disciplinary Online “K-12” Educational Curriculum

February 17, 2006

Community Partners: Vancouver School Board, Simon Fraser University, BCTA. An interactive multi-disciplinary online curriculum designed by Vancouver teachers K-12 students will be unveiled today. In March 2006, the curriculum will be made available to over 600,000 students throughout the Province of British Columbia via teacher, principal and superintendent workshops. Subsequently the program will be launched Canada-wide.
