At first when I saw A-maze-ing Laughter, the only thing I noticed was that they were identical and laughing. After observing more details of the sculpture, I chose to work with the feet. Compared to the face, the feet do not laugh. The feet seem so tense; they tell a whole different story. The feet don’t seem as happy as the expressions on the face. The feet seem buried in the ground. I get the sense from these “individuals” that they are forced to do something that they don’t want to do. In my work, I aimed to show them as free spirits flying in the sky – they are not in bondage anymore.

Like what you see?
