How well do you REALLY know your neighbourhood and city? Sign up at vbbike.ca to discover each route we’ve designed for the BIKEnnale/WALKennale, July 26-August 30th. Each route is anchored by key Biennale artworks, iconic architecture, and layers of history. Get outside and explore our city's diverse neighbourhoods on six Sundays this summer—through art! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ On Spanish Banks you’ll find PUBLIC FURNITURE URBAN TREES by Brazilian artist Hugo Franca. These sculptures are the first he’s ever made outside of Brazil. He transforms local fallen trees into sculptures and sustainable designs. He chose local red cedar from Squamish and Douglas Fir from Vancouver to make these massive artworks. Each organic form invites you to sit, climb, and experience the trees in new ways. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The history of this place runs deep, with layers of indigenous and colonial histories. Jericho Beach was the Musqueam village of Ee’yullmough, and trees from Jericho were used to repair some of the first European ships that landed on Vancouver's shores.
