Surrey Schools Performance: Embracing Uniqueness

BIG IDEAS Education Student Performance

Date & Time

Date: Wednesday, May 21 2014

Time: 7 – 8:30 PM

Embracing Uniqueness is an inaugural, multi-disciplinary performance event by over 500 students ranging from Grade 4 to 12 across Surrey School District. These talented students will present their work through exhibitions and performances in music and song, dance, theatre, spoken words and visual arts. This event celebrates creativity and innovation through a collaborative learning process involving students, teachers, and artists as part of the Vancouver Biennale BIG IDEAS Education Program (BIG IDEAS) in partnership with the Surrey School Board.

In support of the Surrey Board of Education policy addressing Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, students shared, wrote and expressed their thoughts and feelings about the BIG IDEA “Personal Identity and Embracing Uniqueness”. Facilitated by their classroom teachers and professional artists from the BIG IDEAS program, students perform their personal perspectives to share their collective voices with the community.
