Nathalia García – 2014 Residency Artist

Born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, where she lives and works.

Her series of installations titled “Suspended constructions” are among her major works. Through crochet threads and materials such as mattresses, stones and bricks, the artist sews and suspends constructions in space. In 2013, she completed a masters in visual poetics, on PPGAV at the Art Institute of UFRGS. García participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Porto Alegre and did the following solo exhibitions: “Espaço Investido”, SESI Arte Contemporânea, Centro Cultural FIEP, Curitiba, 2012; “Construção do Avesso”, Galeria Iberê Camargo, Porto Alegre, 2012; “MURO”, Galeria do Ocidente, Porto Alegre, 2012; e “Ascensão do Objeto”, Santander Cultural, Porto Alegre, 2013. Nathalia’s work has also been awarded: in 2009, she attended the artistic residency T.D.U.E.P.U.R.C., in the city of Riozinho-RS, through the program “Artistas em Disponibilidade” from the 7ª Mercosul Biennial”.
