Having established the International Artist Residency Program (where we bring contemporary artists—with an emphasis on emerging talent—to Vancouver), the Vancouver Biennale realizes the need to further nurture artists at pivotal points in their creative development. Wishing to honour the founder of the Vancouver “Art Attack” Award, Kirsten Larsen, and recognize her passionate support of community arts programming, the Biennale establishes a new fund at Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECUAD) to commemorate the Award’s tenth anniversary and ECUAD’s centennial. The Award is renamed the Vancouver Biennale “Art Attack” Award of Excellence in Visual Art. Open to visual art students in undergraduate and graduate programs, the annual award recipient will be selected based on work in the ECUAD’s Degree Exhibition and will be chosen by the Degree Exhibition jury.
