Description

Title: The Vancouver Ideas
Artist: Rafael Villares (b. 1989, Cuba)
Medium: Artist portfolio, 72 sheets of paper

Dimensions (H x W): 15 x 20 inches
Location:
Vancouver Biennale Residency Space in Vancouver

With the desire to unite work processes carried out during his Vancouver Biennale residency, Rafael Villares has created an artist book called The Vancouver Ideas: Reimagining the City in 72 Days.

The final result is a 15-by-20 inch portfolio that summarizes the multiple layers of Villares’ experience in Vancouver. The 72 sheets of paper act as a timeline for the 10 weeks of his residency. Using writings and drawings, the artist elaborates proposals that mediate between his previous works while trying to push his practice one step further. The Vancouver Ideas, although inspired by the multicultural diversity of the city, complements a global vision revolving around the artist’s concerns for our current times.
