UPDATE:  Here’s an excellent preview for this exhibit in the Georgia Straight.  Please go check it out.  It looks amazing!

I had a chance to meet and speak with Grace Gordon-Collins last night at the Vancouver Biennale offices.

She told me about the opening reception for ‘Unfiltered’, her most recent show of photographs at the Diane Farris Gallery tomorrow, Thursday June 25, 6-8pm.

In Unfiltered, Vancouver artist Grace Gordon-Collins presents a collection of portrait diptychs of women. One image shows the “public” face of each woman, and the other an intimate “unfiltered” portrayal of each woman dressed as her private fantasy self. Candid and at times confrontational, her subjects unabashedly reveal their innermost emotional sanctums to the camera.

The fantasy photographs conjure another reality, one that is unhampered by social expectations and obligations. In the guise of their second selves, the playful, outrageous or whimsical nature of each picture leaves no doubt we are witnessing a third wave of feminism. The subjects appear comfortable and in control as they seek and celebrate their individual expressions of womanhood.

Please come out and support Grace and her fellow artists and enjoy an evening of enlightening fantasy.  Hope to see you there!
