Having represented Canada at the 1998 Sydney Biennale and the 2006 Liverpool Biennale, Kelly Mark (1967 – 2025) emerged as one of Canada’s leading new media artists.
Mark’s works were exhibited widely across Canada and internationally: The National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), The Power Plant (Toronto), Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver), The Darling Foundry (Montreal), Musée d’Art Contemporain (Montreal); MSVU Art Gallery (Halifax), Bass Museum (Miami), University of Houston (Texas), Real Art Ways (Hartford), The Henry Art Gallery (Seattle), Ikon Gallery (Birmingham, England), Dundee Contemporary Arts (Scotland), The Physics Room (Christchurch, New Zealand), and Netwerk / Centre for Contemporary Art (Brussels, Belgium).
Working in a variety of media including drawing, sculpture, photography, installation, sound, video, and public interventions, Mark was the recipient of numerous Canada, Ontario, and Toronto Arts Council grants, as well as the prestigious KM Hunter Artist Award (2002) and Chalmers Art Fellowship.
Hold That Thought was installed on the façade of the Sunset Community Centre in Vancouver for the 2009-2011 Vancouver Biennale.
