The Biennale is taking dance, music, drama, and poetry to the streets!

Thursday April 19th, 2012

Join us…

from April 23-30 for an unprecedented lineup of 30 live outdoor BIG IDEAS Performances over 8 consecutive days exploring topics inspired by the sculptures of the Vancouver Biennale. Performers include 700 students and graduates from the 2012 Vancouver Biennale BIG IDEAS Artist-in-Residence program, The Dance Centre, SFU Contemporary Art, A Star Is/Boogaloo Academy, Youth Street Dance Council and Arts Umbrella. All performances are FREE and guaranteed to inspire.

Why is this important? This is an opportunity to see the work of young students who have engaged with a specific sculpture, discussed motifs and reactions with classmates, educators, and parents, and created their own performance as a response.

The curriculum that has put these performances in motion is now officially responsible for winning us the ArtStarts award for Arts Champions in Education! This is a huge honour for us as we have put a great deal of energy and passion into the curriculum that aims to open the dialogue for kids and adults alike to discuss art, and specifically the sculptures we’ve curated for the joy of the city.

Check out our website for the schedule.

Come to one or come to all! This is a chance to see your city pulsing with artistic energy.
